The Slaton Economic Development Corporation hired Retail Coach for retail recruitment Thursday afternoon (Feb. 15) during its monthly meeting.

Executive Director Barbara Hopper said she did not know if they needed to get Retail Coach first or a strategic plan.

She added she sent a question to the group, asking if they needed to wait until they had a strategic plan. Hopper said the group said retail recruitment took time and they personally would not wait. Other cities Hopper talked to added they were satisfied with using Retail Coach.

The cost for the group would be $22,500 the first year in consulting fees and then about $15,000 every time they renewed afterward.

The board tabled discussion on contracting with Opportunity Strategies LLC for a strategic plan.
