The Slaton Education Foundation is working to try and raise $100,000 in its first year to help Slaton Independent School District teachers and students.

The Foundation was formed to “better the lives and education of the students and teachers of Slaton ISD programs and organizations, and promote an environment that prepares all students for a successful future.”

The Foundation reported there are approximately 1,279 students, and average teacher salary is $47,957, about $10,930 less than the State average.

Approximately 75 percent of students are economically disadvantaged compared to 60.7 percent Statewide.

The Foundation said there are several ways to help in the fundraising.

One of these is to attend the Slaton Education Foundation Gala.

Other ways are to donate an item to the live or silent auction, give money directly to the Foundation, become an event sponsor, buy a table for 10 to the fundraising gala and buy tickets for teachers so they can attend. Those wanting to donate can visit the SEF’s website for information.
