Tigerette powerlifting team qualifies 4 to State meet

From Staff Reports

The Slaton Tigerette powerlifting team will again be sending athletes to the State meet.

Four lifters – Angelina Mireles, Victoria Mireles, Karime Portillo and Makenna Polozola, qualified to the State meet after placing in the Regionals event Friday and Saturday (March 1-2) in Colorado City.

This is the second time for K. Portillo to qualify, who qualified last year, and the first for A. Mireles, V. Mireles and M. Polozola.

The team finished second in the meet.

Coach Trisha Garza, who is in her first year coaching the girls team, was proud of them.

“Out of 12 teams, our girls powerlifting team got second. The majority of our girls got personal bests while at the Regional meet, including our four state qualifiers,” she said.

A. Mireles placed first in her division. V. Mireles, K. Portillo and M. Polozola placed second in theirs.

Other individual results were Mari Sistos, ninth; Jocelyn Santos, 10th; Jazlyen Perez-Whaley, third; Alexia Anderson, sixth; Jordyn Hogan, third; and Aubri Salas, third.
