The Slaton Tigerettes powerlifting team finished its season at the State Meet March 21 at Comerica Center in Frisco.

While no one medaled at the meet, the team finished its season with a couple of ninth place finishes.

Angelina Mireles placed ninth in weight class 220 with a total of 880 pounds, and

Victoria Mireles placed ninth in weight class 242-plus with 785 total pounds.

Makenna Polozola and Karime Portillo bombed out.

Even though no one walked away with a medal this year, Coach Trisha Garza, in her first year coaching the girls team, was proud of their accomplishments.

“State was tough and there were many lifters who had been there year after year and knew exactly what to expect. All but one of our girls were new to state competition and were nervous, but they went in with their heads held high and with a positive attitude,” she siad. “They pushed themselves to the very last lift and gave it all they had. As a coach, there is nothing more that I could ask of them. They truly made me proud.”
