Janie Marie Westbrook
Janie Marie Westbrook, 75, of Acuff, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
Funeral Services were Monday, September 23, 2024, at Englunds Chapel. Interment followed at Englewood Cemetery. Arrangements were by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Janie was born on September 5, 1949, at the Mercy Hospital in Slaton to James Horace (J.H. “Punk”) and Doris Marie Thomas and was raised in L.A. (Lower Acuff). A member of Roosevelt High School’s Class of 1968, Janie was a lifelong Texas Tech fan who rarely missed a game. Whether cheering for the Red Raiders or rooting for her grandchildren at local events, her enthusiasm was contagious. Janie worked as the bookkeeper/business manager at Roosevelt ISD for 30 years and continued keeping books for local small businesses after retirement. Outside of work, she was an accomplished quilter, a dedicated bowler, and an avid angler. She also shared her passion for sports by volunteering as a softball coach at Roosevelt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James (Robert) Westbrook; her parents; her older brother, Jimmy Wayne Thomas; and her youngest brother, Tony Thomas.
Janie is survived by her two sons: James (Heath) Hodges and wife Miranda of Slaton, TX, and James Christopher Westbrook and wife Caleigh of Lubbock, TX. She was a loving grandmother to James Thomas (JT) Hodges and Sally Jane Hodges, both of Slaton. Janie was always there for them, cheering them on at every stock show, ball game, and school event they participated in.
Janie is also survived by her brothers Randy Scott Thomas and his wife Terry of Canyon, TX, and Rex Allen Thomas and his wife Tammy of Lubbock, TX. She leaves behind a large extended family, including many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who meant the world to her.
