The City of Slaton approved the second reading of an ordinance authorizing the issuance of the City of Slaton combination tax and surplus revenue certificates of obligation in the amount of $3.2 million Monday evening (Feb. 10) during a regular meeting of City Hall.

City Manager Wade Willson said this was to replace the older water tower in downtown, and the City had been approved for the grant.

The moneys are provided for water system improvement projects and awarded the sale of such certificates of obligation to the Texas Water Department Board.

It also approved a resolution finding the statement of intent of ATMOS Energy Corporation, West Texas Division to change rates filing with the City to be denied, finding the reasonable rate change expenses shall be reimbursed by the company.

Willson said the City had suspended the decision for 90 days a few months ago, and are extending it again as discussions continue on rates.
