Unusually cold, snowy weather did not deter guests from the second annual Slaton Education Foundation Gala Saturday (April 5) at the Overton Hotel in Lubbock.

More than $260,000 was raised at the event for the Foundation, who helps by providing funds to better the lives and education of student and teachers of Slaton ISD programs and organizations.

The event featured a dinner, music by Party Kings, a live auction lead by auctioneers Tom Lester and Amy Ross, a “heads or tails” game for a prize, and a key contest where the person who had the winning key would win what was in the box.

Slaton High School students escorted guests to their tables. The theme was Homecoming, with letterman jackets, megaphones and yearbook photos on display for guests to enjoy.

Jeremy Barbee, SEF  Boardmember, thanked everyone for coming to the event and praised SISD for its successes so far this year.

“Slaton has had a great year. Our athletic teams have done phenomenal. Our programs have done phenomenal. Our welding students are doing a great job. Culinary is doing awesome. It’s a great year to be a Slaton Tiger,” he said.

“We’re so happy for all the achievements at Slaton ISD, all the achievements of all the students, the teachers and staff that support all the wonderful work of Slaton.”
