Ministerial Alliance Chili supper fundraiser Saturday

The Ministerial Alliance will host a fundraiser May 10, from 5-7 p.m., at the Clubhouse, 750 W. Garza St.. 

Suggested donation for the chili and cornbread supper is $5. 

The Ministerial Alliance, made up of representatives from the different churches in Slaton, united to help with the benevolence needs of the community. 

Instead of having people in need go from church to church for help, funds are collected and kept in one place, with a phone number to call if someone is in dire straits. 806-445-4108. 

The Alliance will help a Slaton household one time per year with either their food, utility or gasoline emergencies. 

In 2024, the Alliance helped 69 households.

Along with the emergencies that come up, the Alliance also runs a pantry for those residents who live in the Housing Authority units.

 Every third Thursday of the month, the pantry is opened from 10 a.m.- noon in the Earl Powell Center for residents to pick up five hygiene items they can use. 

Offered are cleaners, tissues, detergent and toiletry items. Non-perishable food items that have been donated can also be picked up by the residents. In 2024, the residents picked up hygiene items 248 times.

The Alliance is funded by donations and fundraisers.
