SISD elects trustees, RISD passes bond

Slaton and Roosevelt Independent School Districts will see new faces and passing of bonds for school construction after Election Night Saturday (May 3).
In unofficial votes for SISD, Emily Hargrave was elected to one At-Large trustee seat, receiving 247 votes for 48.24 percent of the vote.
Kara Newcomb was re-elected to her At-Large seat receiving 162 votes for 31.64 percent of the total vote.
Jamie Chancellor received 69 votes for 13.48 percent of the votes, and write in candidate Alexander Tarin received 34 votes for 6.64 percent. Incumbent Justin Martin did not seek reelection.
There were a total of two absentee, 342 early and 168 Election Day ballots cast.
There were no City of Slaton Commissioner seats up for election, as the Council voted earlier in the year to make the terms three years.
