Planes of all kinds – military, aerobatic, and experimental – were all on display for people to watch take flight during the Biennial Texas Airshow Saturday (June 14) at the Slaton Municipal Airport. The show also helps support the Texas South Plains Honor Flight, which is a chapter of the Honor Flight Network. It flies out of 128 hubs in 44 states.
The Honor Flight sends veterans, especially from World War II, Korean Warn and the Vietnam era to Washington D.C. to visit their memorials.
Guests could visit the planes displayed on the ramps before the show, which featured planes from the Texas Air Museum such as the Mitsubishi Ki-51 Light Bomber, Fairchild PT-26 “Cornell” Stinson L-5 Sentinel, Taylorcraft L-2M “Grasshopper” Piper L-4 “Cub”Stinson 10A and Aeronica KCA. The recently restored bi-plane was also on display along with the show planes.
In addition to the planes, guests also had the opportunity to visit several booths, including food, historical groups and the Honor Flight.
