Civil lawsuit filed against Slaton priest

A civil lawsuit has been filed against a Slaton priest who was arrested in June.

Ammanuel Puthuparambil, 73, was arrested June 19 on warrants on charges of unlawful restraint and indecent assault. 

He was released on bond June 24.

The charges are a class A misdemeanor, punishable up to a year in prison.

The alleged victim, who is female, filed the civil suit in Lubbock County on June 25 against Puthuparambil for damage claims of emotional abuse, unlawful restraint, battery and sexual assault, also physical pain, and medical expenses both prior and future.
