The City of Slaton Commissioners said goodbye to one of their resigning commissioners and appointed a new one Monday evening (July 14) during its regular meeting at City Hall.
Commissioner Ward I Tony Newton resigned due to moving out of City limits.
After a brief executive session to discuss the three applicants to fill the vacated position, Carla Rodriguez was appointed to fill the vacancy and remainder of Newton’s term. Rodriguez will be sworn in during the Board’s August meeting.
The Board also went into executive session to conduct the annual review and contract negotiations of City Manager Wade Willson.
When they reconvened, the Board approved Willson’s contract.
