Slaton ISD gives update on new State law regarding phone use at schools
The Slaton Independent School District wants to give an update to its families about a new State Law that was passed during the 2025 biennial State Legislature regarding phone use.
The new Texas Law, House Bill 1481, will take effect the beginning of the 2025-26 school year.
The law, which will affect how students can use cell phones during the day, was passed to help students stay focused, reduce distractions in the classroom, and improve academic outcomes for Texas students.
The law states: 1. Students may not use cell phones during the instructional day, and 2. Districts must adopt and enforce policies to ensure cell phones are not used during the instructional day.
As of press time Tuesday (July 15), the District was currently reviewing and updating its policies to align with the new law.
Full details will be shared closer to the start of school, but SISD wanted families to know of the new law the District must follow.
“This gives everyone time to prepare for the more structured and distraction-free learning environment for the 2025-26 school year,” the District said in a statement.
The Slatonite will also publish an updated version of the new rules and other information when it becomes available.
