City Library moves to new home, needs help unpacking

The City Library has a new home.

But it also has a lot of boxes to unpack, load into shelves, and sort through.

Cynthia Olivares, City Librarian, said the process of getting to the new location, 115 W. Lubbock St., which is in the old Slaton Antique Mall, was a several months in the making.

“We started slowly with a few Slaton High School NHS students coming in before the school year ended to help pack books away. I worked on boxing up decorations, supplies, etc., which is always surprising the number of things that get collected over the years,” she said. “Waylan (Field) and the crew came in and figured out how to take apart and reassemble the shelves and were a major help in moving everything from the old location to the new location.”

The Library is fully moved in from its old location and they are now working on getting everything to its rightful place – including the biggest task of restoring the books to the shelves.
