Several honored at Chamber Banquet, Meeting

Slaton residents, bosses, farmers, farm hands, railroaders and all businesses were honored for their contributions to the community – with seven receiving top honors – at the annual Slaton Chamber of Commerce Banquet and Meeting Saturday (Sept. 20) at Neal Airport.

Those honored were Darlene Jones, Volunteer of the Year, Kevin Johnston, Farmer of the Year, Margarito Mares, Farm Hand of the Year, Jeff Lockaby, Railroader of the Year, Margaret Francis, Boss of the Year, Jessica Kelly, Woman of the Year, and Mark Meurer, Man of the Year.

In addition, eight organizations were recognized as receiving Slaton Area Endowment Grants.

They were Cathelene Thomas Elementary, the Slaton Ministerial Alliance, Slaton Housing Authority, Slaton Harvey House, CASA of the South Plains, Silver Stars, Spirit of Slaton (1809 Engine repair) and Slaton Senior Citizens Association.
