The Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the purchase of a new student transportation vehicle and the FIRST report Tuesday evening (Oct. 14) at the Administration Building.
Art Martin, Chief Financial Officer, said there were more students participating than ever in extracurricular activities for the school, but SISD was having trouble getting people with a Commercial Drivers License, or CDL.
He added in the pass smaller groups would have to use the vans, then progress to the buses, which require a CDL. A van however does not.
Martin said the vehicle would seat 12 passengers and was accounted for in this year’s budget. He added that Smith Auto Family could get it quickly and they had a good warranty. When asked about seatbelts, Martin added they would have them and it was legal for students to be transported in the van.
The Board also approved the FIRST report.
The public hearing opened up at 7:32 p.m.
Martin said the District received an excellent report, scoring 94 out of a possible 100 points.
The report also included the expenditures of the superintendent and other items per the contract.
