Veterans Day program cancelled due to outage

Slaton Independent School District cancelled school Tuesday morning (Nov. 11) due to a power outage caused by a wreck on Hwy. 84.

This also cancelled SHS’ annual Veterans Day program. Approximately 85 percent of the City was without power according to the Slaton Police Department. Power was restored around 9:30 a.m.

SISD thanked people for understanding. “We would like to thank Tiger Nation for your understanding and cooperation this morning. The well-being and safety of our students were the number one factors in our decision to dismiss based on the information we had at the time,” it said in a statement. “Slaton ISD has instructional minutes built into our calendar for unforeseen circumstances, so, at this point, this day will not have to be made up.”
