Trustees to discuss appeal, school plans

The Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees will consider a parent appeal as well as local improvement plans for two schools Monday evening (March 23) at 6 p.m. during the board’s monthly meeting.

The parental appeal regards refusal of entry or ejection from a District property in accordance with Board Policy GF(LOCAL). The improvement plants are for Cathelene Thomas Elementary and Slaton Junior High. 

The Board also will consider approval of board operating procedures, which include the addition of one for travel.

Senate Bill 546 regarding three point seat belts. Items regarding the election for Trustee Seats three and four will also be discussed.

Other items that will be discussed include the monthly Slaton Bakery Studetns of the month and principal reports for the schools.

Enrollemnt, athletic, facilities and safety and security will also be discussed. 

Discussion of the 2026-27 Slaton ISD District of Innovation four day instruction school week calendar will be discussed. The current 2025-26 school year is the last of a three-year pilot program for the school District. Currently, SISD is off on Mondays and attends classes Tuesday through Friday. The first year tried having Fridays off in the Summer.

Bond planning will also be conducted.
