The Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the second year of a three-year pilot program Thursday evening (April 11) during its monthly meeting.

The next year Mondays will be the off day the entire year.

The first year the scheduling had students off on Mondays in the Fall Semester, Fridays in the Spring.

Trustees also approved the Texas Kid’s First insurance program.

Chief Financial Officer Art Martin said the renewal price actually went down over the past year. He added it was the most popular insurance for West Texas and was a supplemental policy. If a student is injured at the school, the parents’ insurance would be used first and then if it went over the school would help pay toward the remaining costs.
