Englunds Funeral Home

   By: Jenna Howle

The Englunds Funeral Home is a proud supporter of the Slatonite. They have been a steadfast presence in the town of Slaton, running ads, and providing us with weekly obituaries. Their story is one of dedication, family, and unwavering commitment to serving Slaton and the surrounding areas.

The journey of Englunds Funeral Home began in 1936 when Webber B. and Flora Mae Williams purchased a funeral home on 9th Street, renaming it Williams Funeral Home. The couple had two children, Webber B. and Glynna. Glynna, who was just nine years old at the time, grew up immersed in the family business. On June 18, 1947, she married H.M. “Bud” Englund, and shortly after, Bud joined Glynna and Mrs. Williams in the family business following the passing of Mr. Williams in 1948.

Bud and Glynna started their family while dedicating themselves to the funeral home. Their sons, D.W. “Dubbin” and Robert Englund, were raised within the business. As the family grew, so did their commitment to the community.

In 1978, Englunds Funeral Service and Chapel opened at its current location, marking a new chapter for the family business. Dubbin married Donna Alspaugh, and Robert married Tricia Pounds, ensuring that the Englund legacy would continue.

After Glynna passed away, Dubbin and Robert continued to run the funeral home, serving the Slaton community with the same dedication and care. Dubbin passed away on May 28, 2019, and Robert decided it was time to semi-retire in October 2018. At this juncture, David Nutt joined as General Manager, Funeral Director, and Embalmer, bringing fresh energy and expertise to the team. The addition of Cheryl Bloxom as Administrative Assistant on March 1, 2019, further strengthened the team.

Today, David, Robert, Cheryl, and their dedicated team of funeral assistants—Greg Dyess, Alan Ehlo, Darlene Jones, Pat Moses, and student Annie Kelly—continue to uphold the high standards of service that have defined Englunds for decades.

Englunds Funeral Home offers a wide range of services to support families during their most difficult times. They provide full funeral services and cremation services, which can include full funeral ceremonies. Their coordination with military services ensures that veterans receive the honors they deserve at graveside services. Additionally, Englunds offers prearranged funeral options, allowing individuals to plan their services in advance and alleviate future burdens on their families.

What truly distinguishes Englunds Funeral Home is their extensive experience and deep-rooted commitment to the community. With over 75 years of combined experience, the Englunds team lives in and serves the community with a genuine heart for service. Their understanding of local needs and personal dedication makes them a trusted and compassionate choice for families in their time of need. Englunds Funeral Home remains a trusted and compassionate choice for families in Slaton, upholding a legacy of care and community service.
