Senior Center hosts open house to raise funds for programs

The Slaton Senior Center held an open house last Saturday. It was a beautiful, warm spring day, and it was a first class event. The event was to publicize the Center and to raise much needed funds. A good many Slatonites turned out to show their support. The Slaton Lions Club served up pretty good hamburgers and trimmings. There was a silent auction, a bake sale and lots of good conversation. Everyone had a grand time.
The fun part of this job is getting to know folks in Slaton. I met a whole bunch of people whom I had not met before and refreshed old acquaintances. Everyone was very friendly, and I think I made some new friends. What really struck me was how much the people of Slaton love their community and how they want to support it.
