Chavarin places ninth in State UIL Powerlifting
Last Saturday, Josh Chavarin competed in the UIL State Powerlifting meet. Chavarin placed ninth in the 132-pound weight class at the meet and upped his personal bests in every event.
Chavarin went in to Saturday’s meet with a max of 170 pounds and improved that by 35 pounds to 205 at the state meet.
He also improved his max on deadlift by 5 pounds, going up from 425 to 430 pounds at the meet. Chavarin’s greatest gains came on the squat, where he improved his max by 50 pounds from the regional, 370 to 420 pounds.
This led to an overall increase of 90 pounds to 1,055 pounds at the state meet for Chavarin, whose previous max total was 965.
It was a great placement from a sophomore, and hopefully Slaton will see him return to the State meet this time next year.
