Fire department, Red Cross join to install smoke alarms

A fire can consume a house in minutes, trapping people inside if they don’t know it is in flames.

The time it takes to put in a smoke alarm to help prevent a tragedy from happening.

Members of the Slaton Fire Department, along with the Lubbock American Red Cross and other volunteers teamed up to install fire alarms Saturday throughout town.

More than 100 homes received the free smoke alarms. The alarms were paid for by the Red Cross using money from fundraisers.
