Slaton, nation views solar eclipse
From Staff Reports
Slaton residents and others across the state and nation went outside to see the solar eclipse Monday afternoon (April 8).
The town did not see a full eclipse; however, about 90 percent of the sun was hidden when the moon moved between the earth and sun.
Several groups, including Sonic and the Texas A&M Forestry group, gave special glasses that would allow people to view the eclipse. The Forestry group brought their glasses to the Library, who distributed them to viewers.
A strip of Texas and several states saw total darkness.
The eclipse started about 12:18 p.m. CST and reached its maximum eclipse about 1:35 p.m.
It ended about 2:55 p.m.
