Chamber of Commerce discusses Awards Banquet
By: Jenna Howle
The Slaton Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting on July 11th at 12:00 p.m., discussing key updates and upcoming events. The meeting commenced with the approval of June’s minutes and financial reports, followed by a membership update. The Chamber reviewed the recent 4th on the Square celebration, noting a successful event with eight cornhole teams participating. Plans for next year include starting the parade at 10:00 a.m. alongside the festivities, having two bounce houses, and continuing the popular barrel train. The events on the 4th next year will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., instead of 3:00 p.m. The Mr. and Mrs. Firecracker contest will be divided into age groups. Social media advertising proved effective, reaching 11,000 people. Funds raised from the 4th on the Square event will be allocated for Halloween candy and the Trunk or Treat.
The annual Awards Banquet will be hosted at Neals Aircraft on September 7, with time yet to be announced. The event will feature tickets that include a meal and beverages of your choice. Applications for awards such as Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Boss of the Year, Farmer of the Year, Farmhand of the Year, Railroader of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year are now open, with a deadline of August 9th. The form to submit nominations is at: https://forms.gle/wpPEdJth7XPBG7aF9. Tables are available for $500, seating eight people; additional tickets must be purchased for larger groups. Additional tickets may be purchases for an additional $50. Members are required to contribute one or two items for the silent auction, with a deadline of September 4th. Promotions for the banquet will include postcards, radio spots, emails, and newspaper announcements. Notably, there will be no door prizes this year.
The Chamber will reconvene on the 29th of August to finalize the details for the Awards Banquet and other upcoming events.
