SEDCO Discusses Land Purchase

The Slaton Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) convened for its regular meeting on July 18, 2024, at the SEDCO Board Room. Chaired by Joe Janick, the meeting commenced promptly at 12:06 p.m. with an invocation by Nancy Norman.
The agenda began with the approval of the June 20, 2024 meeting minutes, swiftly passed upon motion by Nancy Norman and seconded by Jason Corley. Financial matters followed as Teffanie White motioned to approve the financial statements and monthly bills, which was seconded by Nancy Norman and approved unanimously.
During the public comments section, no attendees spoke, leading to the opening of a public hearing at 12:08 p.m. regarding a building construction incentive for Heirloom Flowers & Goods on West Crosby Street. The hearing closed at 12:12 p.m. without public commentary.
Barbara Hopper, providing the Director’s report, highlighted a forthcoming City Council resolution for a land purchase project totaling $60,000. Updates were also shared on retail recruitment efforts and business development initiatives, including progress reports from The Retail Coach and Leading Edge.
Significant actions included a unanimous decision to sponsor the Chamber Awards Banquet with a $500 donation and the approval of both the amended 2023-2024 budget and the 2024-2025 budget.
Following discussions, the Board entered executive session at 12:49 p.m. under Section 551.074 of the Texas Government Code to deliberate on personnel matters, reconvening in open session at 1:04 p.m. with no further actions taken.
In conclusion, the meeting adjourned at 1:06 p.m.. The next scheduled gathering will continue SEDCO’s mission to foster economic growth and development within the Slaton community.
