By:Jenna Howle

The City of Slaton held a meeting on October 21, 2024, introducing four new police officers: Jose Gonzales, Raul Ascencio, Abigail Hargrove, and Brand Price.

The council approved minutes from previous meetings and reported no changes in financial statements. Department updates included street paving progress, near completion of water meter installations, and the police responding to 629 cases in the past month.

A public hearing discussed issuing a tax note for city street repairs, highlighting Slaton’s 3% growth and the importance of preserving the downtown square. The council approved several motions, including switching to Thin Line Software for dispatch, awarding a bid for asbestos abatement, and approving $10,000 for The Combine’s building project. Paula Bibbs Samuels was appointed to fill a vacant board seat, and the November meeting was rescheduled for November 18,2024 due to Veterans Day.

The meeting ended at 8:03 p.m., with no action taken in executive session.
