SHS athletic director resigns

Slaton High School athletic director and head football coach Stacey Martin has resigned.

Martin submitted his letter of resignation Monday (June 4), telling the administration he was “pursing new challenges in his life.” The resignation was effective immediately.

Martin was scheduled to have his athletic director title removed and be re-assigned as only head football coach, effective June 12, according to Slaton ISD Supt. Julee Becker.

Powerlifting coach and defensive coordinator Jeff Caffey will assume both positions (see related story on Page 3 of the June 7 edition).

Martin last year led the Tigers to their first playoff victory since 1997, a 21-17 win over Kermit for the bi-district title. He served two years as head coach, compiling a 7-14 overall record.
