Track, field teams finish second in Post meet

Boys Track

The boys Slaton High School Track and Field team placed second at last week’s meet in Post, with many good performances individually and as a group.

Quevon McDaniel came in first place in the triple jump at the meet, while Kevondrick Gober came in first in long jump and Tashawn Tipton placed fourth in long jump.

Gober also had a strong showing in the 100-meter dash, in which he placed second.

Malachi Mendez placed fourth in discus at the meet, as well as placing second in the 110-meter hurdles.

Edward Betancourt came in third place in the 300-meter hurdles, while also placing sixth in the 110-meter hurdles.

The 4×200-meter relay team consisting of Eli Martinez, Zephron Ortiz, Tashawn Tipton and Kevondrick Gober placed first at the meet and the 4×100-meter relay team made up of the same group came in second.

Lastly, in the 4×400-meter relay, a team of Quevon McDaniel, Tashawn Tipton, Malachi Mendez and Eli Martinez came in fifth.

Girls Track

The girls Track and Field Team had a good meet in Post and came in second place as a team with 4 first place finishes at the meet.

Ta’kaja Robinson came in second place in the long jump and first place in the triple jump, while Ti’Alice Young placed third in the triple jump.

For relays, a team of Ta’kaja Robinson, Natali Soto, Zanady Coronado and Xazari Naylor took home first place in the 4×100 and 4×200.

Robinson also took home first place in the 200-meter dash and Kamryn Gibbs placed third in the event.

In the 100-meter dash Xazari Naylor came in fourth place.

Justyne Zapata placed second in the 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the shot put at the meet.

In the 3200-meter run Aryanna Zapata came in fourth place.
