Slaton to see new teams in UIL realignment

The Slaton Tigers and Tigerettes will see some familiar – and new – faces beginning next year.

The University Interscholastic League released its new District alignments for the 2020-22 years and 2020-21 schedule for basketball.

Slaton will be in Conference 3A, Division I.

For most sports, the school will be in District I, which will include current school Shallowater (Mustangs).

Joining the District will be Kermit (Yellow Jackets), Denver City (Mustangs), Brownfield (Cubs) and Lamesa (Tornadoes), while Littlefield (Wildcats), Bushland (Falcons), River Road  (Wildcats) and Muleshoe (Mules) move to another District.

For basketball, Slaton will compete in District II, which will consist of current District opponents Abernathy (Antelopes), Idalou (Eagles), Lubbock Roosevelt (Eagles) and Shallowater (Mustangs).

New to the District will be Tulia (Hornets) and Childress (Bobcats) and moving Denver City and Brownfield.

Every other year, the UIL redistricts the schools based on population and other factors.
