The Roosevelt Eagles Cross Country Team competed in the Plainview XC Invitational.

Head Coach Kim Clemmons said the meet was “huge,” but the team did well overall.

In the boys’ race, Trace Weller finished in the fastest time with a 19:05 for 27th place. “This was his fastest time of the season, and we are hoping to get him in the low 18’s by District.  He has been our top male runner all season,” said Clemmons.

Other finishers were Kevin Barraza, 20:39; Dakota Reyes, 21:50; Zak Gossett, 21:53; Josiah Garcia, 23:19; Daniel Rivera, 23:22 and  Isaiah Mendoza, 24:28.

For the girls, Joslyn Salazar finished in 12th place with a 13:36, good enough to earn a medal. The team also placed fourth overall.

Other runners were Kass Benavides, 14:04; Lexi Gonzales, 14:04; Jasmine Robles, 14:31; Melody Allison, 14:38; Victoria Montes, 14:55; Brittany Bartlett, 15:39; Abby Olivares; 15:42; Kayelyn Skorick, 16:48; and Camryn Grimes, 17:14.

Clemmons was proud of how the girls had improved over last year. “We finished sixth in the District meet (last year),” she said. “We are looking to place in the top three teams this season.”

Roosevelt will run in the Tim Torres Invitational in Lubbock this weekend (Sept. 26).
