Eagles still the Whirlwinds 61-0 in homecoming match

The Roosevelt Eagles continued their streak heading into their bye week, shutting out the Floydada Whirlwinds 61-0 Friday evening (Sept. 24).
Landers was happy for the team winning their homecoming game. “Our guys played really well last Friday Night against Floydada. I was really proud of the way they executed and adjusted to some different things they were doing on the defensive end of the ball. Defensively our guys made plays and tackled well,” he said.
During the the game, quarterback Alex Trevino had 11 carries 101 yards and rushing touchdown.
Running back Nate Gen-sler had seven carries for 112 yards and three rushing TDs.
JJ Diaz had two carries on the night for 60 yards and a rushing TD.
Octavio Rodriguez had five carries for 57 yards and a rushing TD, and RB Zack Bryant had four carries for 50 yards and a rushing TD.
On defense, Diaz had six solo and four assisted tackles, with five for losses, and a sack.
Gensler had three solo and three assisted tackles. Trevino had five solo and three assisted tackles, one for a loss, one punt block and one fumble. Jermaal Riggins had two solo and one assisted tackle as well as two blocked punts.
Loyd Eustace had six solo and an assisted tackle, with two for losses, a quarterback hurry and blocked punt.
Thomas Sanchez had three solo and three assisted tackled, with a tackle for loss.
This week is a bye week. Landers said they’re going to do what they can on both sides to keep the win streak going for a District Championship.
“Offensively and defensively we are going to keep getting better at what we do and the fundamentals of the game. We are going to work more kicking game this week, we feel that is a portion of the game that needs improvement for us, so we are going to focus on that a lot this week,” he said.
In other games, Wilson lost to Hermleigh 69-0.
